Bayou’s Lament

Bayou’s Lament A Labyrinth of Souls Novella #9 by Cheryl Owen-Wilson Genre: Dark Fantasy, Horror

Veya Marie St. James has vowed to never again set foot on the Island of her birth—a strip of land buried deep in the swamps of southern Louisiana. Her childhood memories are rampant with ancient superstitions and the bizarre rituals of her estranged mother. Veya long ago rejected that life and those beliefs, but when a mysterious illness threatens her daughter’s life, it all leads to the Island. Veya swore she would never go back, but the Island calls to her, and now it’s calling with her daughter’s voice. Add to GoodreadsAmazon * B&N

The writing bug first snagged Cheryl Owen-Wilson through the penning of a personal essay, for which she received an award and publication. Today what drives her writing life is Southern Gothic fiction. Since her biological roots are buried not only in Oregon, but also deep in the bayous of Southern Louisiana the genre is a natural fit. When not writing she can be found at an easel covered in oil paint. “When I write I usually have painting in mind to go with the story. The same holds true when a painting forms, a story generally follows.” In that vein one of her paintings is featured on the ShadowSpinners: A Collection of Dark Tales, book jacket. You can find her short story: Swamp Symphony, in the book’s collection. This is Cheryl’s first published novella. Website * Facebook * Twitter * Instagram * Amazon * Goodreads

I’ve always been a creative individual. Writing is just a facet of that creativity… My careers in public relations in and around the entertainment industry, photography, editing, artist management, modeling and special event planning all elevated my passion for writing, not to mention gave me a treasure trove for story lines. I write women’s fiction; contemporary romance (as Jamie Salisbury) and historical romance (as JR Salisbury) which is ever evolving. I am fortunate enough that writing (and marketing of said product(s)) is my full-time job, although I always have one or two other projects going at the same time. I now live in a suburb of Atlanta. The Shale Controversy

The Shale Controversy by Ian Dexter Palmer Genre: Environmental Nonfiction

The Shale Controversy assesses the pros and cons of the shale revolution. Written for lay readers as well as experts, the book lists the personal benefits of cheap gas and oil as well as the trade balance achieved for the United States. On a global scale, cheap energy has lifted millions of people into the middle class. But there are downsides of the revolution. One is the threat, present and future, of earthquakes in connection with drilling of shale wells. The biggest downside may be the threat of global warming –attributed to greenhouse gases from the burning of fossil fuels, including shale-oil and shale-gas. Australia is a poster-child for global warming and Dr Palmer in 2019 drove past kangaroos killed by a severe drought that turned into the worst wildfires in a century in late 2019. He also visited the corals being bleached by global warming in an otherwise pristine part of the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns. This leads Dr. Palmer’s thoughts to the immense challenges faced by oil and gas companies. Should they cut back on drilling and fracking, and by how much? Dr. Palmer rounds out the book with solutions to avoid potential disasters that that the experts insist are coming at us fast. Praise for The Shale Controversy “Despite having been in oil and gas for over ten years, I’ve always struggled with how to simplify the complexities of the industry. Dr. Palmer has done it in his book. It is thorough, fact rich, fair and easy to follow. If you want to explore the big questions, better understand the issues and decisions associated with powering our world, this book is a must read.” — Mark Madison, Managing member, Absolute Oil+Gas. “Dr. Palmer presents a balanced, informed, and captivating overview of the shale oil and gas revolution in the 21st century. The reader is given a clear understanding of shale fracking and the impact on the environment, earthquakes, and global warming as well as the economic benefits.” — John Cameron, Well Completions Consultant. “The author of this book will take you on a fascinating journey from the risks and benefits of fracking, to an examination of an undeniable threat and dilemma faced by mankind – all a part of the twenty first century shale gas and oil revolution. The book offers valuable ideas for solutions to the problems.” — Ion Ispas, Associate Professor, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX. Goodreads * Amazon

My life is not perfect, in fact, it is in a huge state of disrepair. I have no one to blame but myself for that. Well, I should blame the man who dragged me into this muddy life. He certainly helped dirty it up.

It’s time for me to start over again and leave that life behind. Get as far away from him as I can. Take my daughter and escape before he ruins us both. She deserves so much better than the life we’re trapped in.

But while I wait for the right time to present itself, I find myself distracted by one very fine Prince. My screwed-up life has no place for this man, who has decided to get his nose dirty. He doesn’t even understand how dire my situation is, or the danger he is inserting himself into. And while I might like to see where it all could go if things were different, there is no way I’d risk dragging him down with me. My life has no room for a Prince. We are from two different worlds and I’d only taint him and his family.

The problem I’m having, however, is the length he’s willing to go to prove me wrong. No matter how hard I try to warn him off, he refuses to listen to reason. The only way I see out is to do the unthinkable.

This is my fight and I’m not about to let him sidetrack me. It’s time to do what I have to do. I can only pray he forgives me one day.

Color coded love stories and revealing female anatomies lead to the murder of world renowned sculptor, Bruce Jones. In life, the artist loved women, almost as much as women loved him. Adored for his art and colorful personality, Bruce is mourned by the world at large. The tale is launched with the multifaceted perspectives of four ex-wives, the current wife, and his new love interest and their children. Mary , Bruce’s wealthy first love, is always in perfect pink; the color of love. Mother of Clair the famous actress and Aaron the corporate lawyer. Leslie The Second’s color is yellow for her sunny nature as much as for her fears and insecurities. Her only son Bobby is vulnerable and lost. Mourning his father’s death, he finds himself. Petra The Third, is outstanding in orange, representing not only her native Holland but also her love of the fruit. Cherished her freedom and had no children of her own. Toni The Fourth is a vibrant passionate Italian red and part of the eventual glue that creates and solidifies this dysfunctional Jones family. Her teenage daughters Tina and Isa are as different as night and day. Brooke The Fifth a gold-digger. Green, her color, reflects the color of money and envy. Her young son’s Kyle and Caleb are too young to understand why their world has been turned upside-down. Mara, as blue as the ocean was the last woman to steal Bruce’s heart. Mother to newborn Baby Peter is the unexpected gift and surprise. Bruce Jones’ eight children speak out, too. They are as distinctive as the women he loved, their mothers. Loose ends are tied up by the insights of Sylvia, Aaron’s wife and a trusted keeper of secrets; Scott, the private investigator and family friend; Nona, the quintessential grandmother everyone loves but to whom few are truly related; and Detective Jim Miller who will not rest until he discovers Bruce Jones’ murderer. When you Google the word PSYCHOMETRY, the definition is not nice, downright condescending. It is defined as the supposed ability to discover facts about an event or
person by touching inanimate objects associated with them.
When I chose this as one of my guest post topics for this tour, I had no idea it was controversial today. I know psychics who say that they do not need an object to tap into past
energies. As a matter of fact, in my quest, I was turned down by several who said it was not their gift.
As I researched traditionally, through archives in Denmark, England, and online, my limitations as one not trained to be a historian were vast. I owned my grandfather’s watch
that had gone down with him on August 15th, 1939. Another smaller, simpler square watch my family assumed it belonged to the other Standard Oil of New Jersey gentleman
traveling with my grandfather, Cesar Agustin Castillo. Five men were reported dead, and the Pilot survived and lived until 1979. This research led to my book The Bridge of
Deaths
I had nothing to lose and had already had experiences that cemented my belief in various psychic abilities. Of the several psychics who held said watches, I will share two
stories one a male psychic, who did his readings out of a New Age Store in Boca Raton, and another who worked in the back of a florist, also in Boca Raton, Florida.
The gentleman was overly sensitive, and I handed him the damaged pocket watch with no warning. He described an enclosed environment with small windows and an
uncomfortable seat. He said, “I see letters outside the window.” The psychic then began to trace with his index finger as he said, “GA.” I felt an emotional impact I cannot
describe. On one of the wings of the Lockheed Electra 10-A that my grandfather met his end had the letter G-A the aviation call sign for British Airways LTD, it is not the
aviation call sign for BOAC today. After that, he started complaining that the smoke made it hard to breathe, and I had to move quickly as he almost fainted on me, as I said,
overly sensitive.
The other example, the lady who also closed her eyes and with her index finger traced the silhouette of Storstrømsbroen, the Danish bridge by which the British Airways, LTD
plane fell into the water. It was pulled out the following day.
The second watch I will not describe in detail, but every psychic has, with no previous information and well before we knew everything online, described to perfection,
including age, attire, and looks, another of the men whose life ended that day.
Google may well call it “the supposed” a farce, but psychometry is a gift in my experience.
